Lesson Notes

01

The map overlay controls panel appears at the top-left of the map (or in a drawer on mobile). It contains a row of four mode buttons: Overview, Routes, Live, and Coverage. The active mode is highlighted. Some modes are disabled until prerequisites are met: Routes and Live require at least one technician to be present in the organization; Coverage requires a service area to be configured in Organization Settings. A disabled button shows a tooltip explaining what needs to be set up.

02

Overview mode is the default. It shows all active jobs as status-colored pins on a standard street/satellite map. This is the broadest operational snapshot — useful at the start of a day to assess pending work and see where it's located geographically. No route data is fetched in this mode.

03

Routes mode fetches computed route data from the backend for each technician. The map switches to show color-coded route lines for each technician (each technician gets a deterministically assigned color that stays consistent), with numbered stop markers instead of status-colored job pins. The overlay controls panel gains a Time Frame row (Today, Tomorrow, or a custom single-day picker via the calendar icon) and a Technicians refinement section where you can toggle individual technician routes on or off. A Traffic toggle appears in Routes and Live modes; activating it overlays Mapbox's real-time traffic data (green/amber/red/dark-red road coloring) so dispatchers can see road conditions while planning assignments. In Routes mode, the right sidebar switches to the Today's Routes view (covered in its own lesson).

04

Live mode shows the same route lines and technician markers as Routes, but refreshes more frequently to reflect real-time location data as technicians move through their days. In Live mode, technician markers that have active tracking data show their live GPS position rather than their home base. Live routes between the technician's current position and their next job destination are drawn as animated blue polylines. This mode is most useful mid-day when shoots are actively in progress.

05

Coverage mode renders your organization's configured service areas as filled polygon overlays on the map, allowing you to visualize your operating territory. Coverage mode is only available when at least one service area has been configured in Organization Settings. This view is primarily for Owners reviewing their geographic footprint or planning expansion, not for day-to-day dispatching.

Key Takeaways

  • Overview mode shows all active jobs as status-colored pins — the broadest daily snapshot.
  • Routes mode fetches computed technician routes with numbered stops and a technician color system.
  • The Traffic toggle in Routes/Live overlays real-time Mapbox road condition colors for dispatcher situational awareness.
  • Live mode shows real-time GPS positions for in-flight technicians and animated route polylines.
  • Coverage mode requires a configured service area; it shows your operating territory as a filled polygon.
